Nicholas Coutts is a South African women’s wear designer from Cape Town. His signature is creating garments that are textured and uses fabrication to create a pleasing contrasting visual. Influenced by the Arts & Crafts movement and his craft oriented mother, Coutts specialises in using handwoven fabrics and hand knitted items.

Nicholas studied Fashion Design at the Academy of Fashion in Cape Town and graduated in 2013. The same year he won the ELLE Rising Star Design Award which catapulted him into the South African fashion industry.

Nicholas Coutts collaborated with fellow South African dress designer, Lukhanyo Mdingi to produce a men’s wear Autumn/Winter 2016 collection which was showcased at the Generation Africa show produced by Pitti Immagine and the Ethical Fashion Initiative.
