African Designers

The Ethical Fashion Initiative works with African designers to promote local fashion talent, encourage manufacturing with African artisans and support the development of regional export capacities.

The Ethical Fashion Initiative’s African Designer programme has helped put Africa on the global fashion map and showcase the creativity and talent of African designers. At the same time, the Ethical Fashion Initiative encourages African designers to produce locally with African artisans and stimulate job creation on the continent.

The African designers selected by the Ethical Fashion Initiative team are given the opportunity to showcase their talent at top industry events, increase their production capacities and work with skilled African artisans. Throughout the programme, the Ethical Fashion Initiative team, composed of fashion industry experts including Simone Cipriani and Simonetta Gianfelici, provide mentoring, guidance and support to the selected African designers.

The Ethical Fashion Initiative’s African Designer programme first launched in 2013 and operates out of Ghana. In Ghana, the Ethical Fashion Initiative has helped set up a garment production centre where quality clothing and accessories can be produced by African artisans.
