Altaroma Room Service

Altaroma’s Room Service is a project curated by talent scout and fashion consultant, Simonetta Gianfelici. Emerging fashion design talent is selected to participate in the Room Service showroom, which gives designers an opportunity to showcase their work for a week. Fashion Industry professionals are invited to the event as well as members of the public, enabling designers to receive direct feedback.

The Ethical Fashion Initiative works closely with Altaroma to introduce an African fashion presence to Rome’s Fashion Week. In July 2014, Anita Quansah, Christie Brown, MO SAÏQUE and MONAA participated in Altaroma’s Room Service event. The designers presented their designs in a room dedicated to African fashion, the vibrancy of their creativity turned out to be a highlight of the Room Service event.

Afua Dabanka of MO SAIQUE and MONAA says of the event: “Ethical Fashion is no longer a trend, but slowly growing to be a well-respected part of the fashion industry. It is for events and organisations like Altaroma x Ethical Fashion Initiative we can keep this movement going, change the perception of goods “Made in Africa” but most of all showcase unique traditional aspects re-invented into highly contemporary pieces on a global landscape.”
