African Designer workshop in Ghana © ITC Ethical Fashion Initiative

For the third consecutive year, Biffi Boutique and ITC Ethical Fashion Initiative brought the Beat of Africa to Milan’s celebration of Vogue Fashion’s Night Out and Milan Fashion Week.

MaXhosa by Laduma, Mimi Plange, Sindiso Khumalo and Sophie Zinga showcased looks from their Spring/Summer 2016 collections at the iconic Milanese store and created a special gift item sold during Vogue Fashion’s Night Out.

This was an opportunity for each designer to receive direct customer feedback, gain press exposure and interact with an iconic retailer. Each designer also had the opportunity to participate in a showroom sales campaign.

Simone Cipriani said of the event: “There is a huge buzz around African fashion but scarce opportunities for real trade. The Ethical Fashion Initiative is working on this and we are soon launching a new mentoring scheme to enable designers work alongside investors and business partners. This is a key component to grow and bring more work to Africa. Work not words is what Africa needs.”
