Catching up with the winners of Opportunities Are Here Côte d’Ivoire

The last two years have been huge for young creatives in Africa who participated in Opportunities Are Here Project X. The winners from Côte d’Ivoire have been up to quite a bit. Let’s find out!

The winners of Project X Côte d’Ivoire were Kone Safiatou for the designer category, Matt Yafson for the artist category and Oulai Keharou Ariel for the model category.

Kone Safiatou is the designer behind SAWAAK, a bags and jewellery brand that aims to promote Ivorian culture while conquering the local and international market. She is currently developing her brand with the incubation and working on a collaboration with OAH-X Côte d’Ivoire juror Isabelle Andoh Vieyra and her famous brand, Ysand.

Matt Yafson is a drummer who stole the heart of the judges from the very first day with his  charisma and incredible drumming skills. Matt stayed dedicated through the course of the project attending masterclasses and working on his  assignments. He recently organised, and performed in, a virtual concert and has been invited to different local TV and radio shows.

During incubation, model Oulai Keharou Ariel started the project KEHAROUSTORE, a platform for the sale of clothes and shoes for men and women all over Africa. Targeting everyone, ranging from young adults to the elderly.

Third winner of Project X Côte d'Ivoire, Matt Yafson.

All the winners have been able to turn the prizes they have received from Project X into a stepping stone for their creative brands and businesses. All 3 winners received USD 1,370 seed capital and a 6-month business incubation.

They now wait for their final prize: a trip to Paris to showcase their talent in 2022. They will be joined by the winners from Project X Uganda and Kenya. We are very proud of the efforts and progress all the winners have made so far and we can’t wait to see a lot more from them!

Opportunities Are Here Project X is a project of the Ethical Fashion Initiative, with the support of the European Union.
