Tujikuze Empowering Artisans, One Tassel at a Time with Conad Nord Ovest
Tujikuze – our social enterprise partner in Kenya – has been working during the past months on an impactful production order of 105,000 Beaded Tassels for Conad Nord Ovest.
This project required extensive involvement from 21 artisan communities across Kenya. In total 1,200 people were directly trained, 1,900 people were directly involved in the production order, of which 95% are women, and more than 2,500 people indirectly benefited from this order. Together, they produced 105,000 beaded tassels, showcasing the exceptional skills and dedication of local communities.

Skills Development
To ensure the successful execution of the order, Tujikuze with the support of EFI, has conducted comprehensive training sessions for various community members and service providers to elevate their skills and meet the required production standards.
These trainings significantly contributed to building the skills of local artisans and service providers in several regions across Kenya.
Through targeted training, 1200 artisans mastered cotton thread beading, and rubber engraving. These newly acquired skills have opened doors to future employment opportunities and improved their capacity to handle large-scale production.
Economic and social empowerment
The work generated by this production order has strengthened the local economy by creating sustainable income streams. Artisans gained business management skills, empowering them to support their families and invest in their communities.
The project also promotes unity among traditionally rival communities by engaging them in a common goal, contributing to long-term peace and stability in the region.
Sustainability and environmental impact
The use of recycled inner tubes and sustainable materials underscored the commitment to environmental sustainability, a key principle of Tujikuze’s operations.
This project is a clear example of how purposeful collaboration can create positive change: empowering artisans and women, strengthening communities, and driving sustainable practices.
